700 Kilograms of Cocaine Confiscated in Sardinal

Narcotics traffickers have suffered another blow in Guanacaste, this time in the area of Sardinal de Carrillo.

On June 26, Drug Control Police seized 710 kilograms of cocaine, two vehicles, a shotgun and ₡3 million ($6,000) resulting from drug sales. An international narcotics cartel was involved.

The seizure took place in Artola in Sardinal de Carrillo. Upon raiding two houses, officials found the drugs in plastic barrels and in two vehicles – one Mitsubishi and the other a Hyundai.

Two Columbian men were arrested at the scene, one with the surnames Sierra Mejia and the other Echeverri Rivera, as well as two Costa Ricans with the surnames Arce Porras and Quiros Alvarado.

The four were sentenced to six months of preventive prison by the penal court of Santa Cruz, according to the penal court press and communication department.

Police are continuing to search for evidence, as more people are thought to be involved in the network. Those arrested have been placed in the custody of the Public Ministry for due processing.
