Esta publicación también está disponible en: Español

January has arrived and for many, it is the month of regrets and resolutions. The cravings and feasting that come with the end of one year and the beginning of the new year make those unwanted extra pounds weigh on the conscience and show up in the clothes that just don’t fit right anymore.

However, all is not lost and that is why The Voice of Guanacaste developed a Fitness Guide to calculate the calorie intake with some of the most common foods eaten at the beginning and end of the year, versus the recreational activities that, besides being fun and healthy, can get you back to your ideal weight.

Dance

Zumba: Between 500 and 800 calories can be burned per hour.

Salsa: This dance style can burn 250 to 400 calories per hour.

Swimming: A person who weighs 80 kilos (176 pounds) and swims moderately for an hour can drop 320 calories.

Soccer Game: The goalkeeper burns less calories because the position is limited, while a midfielder will burn more calories because of covering a larger amount of space. Estimated between 260 and 310 calories per 30 minutes.

Hiking Up a Hill: It depends on the intensity and steepness of the hill. On a 2-kilometer hike at a moderate speed, about 300 calories can be burned.
