A higher percentage of Guanacaste women have completed college-level studies than anywhere else in the country

Is it true that machismo is more prevalent in Guanacaste than in other provinces? Some statistics show otherwise. For example, 16 percent of women here have completed college-level courses compared to only 10 percent of men. That is a greater gap than in any other region in the country.

 

But the Chorotega region also has high adolescent pregnancy rates and barriers to education for women.

 

The Voice of Guanacaste recently analyzed data from the National Statistics and Census Institute. Here are some of our findings.
