On Saturday, March 28th at about 11:30 p.m., two hooded men dressed in black robbed a couple of foreigners at gunpoint in Guiones Beach in Nosara.

The event alarmed several members of the community since it is unusual for home burglaries to be perpetrated with firearms. According to police records, several robberies have been recorded during the first months of 2015, but most occurred when people were out of the house.

According to Marco Monge Gomez, from the press department of the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ), “The victims, a couple of foreigners and their minor child, were resting in a house in Guiones Beach when two subjects entered this house and, threatening them with firearms, took from them a cell phone, an electronic tablet, a laptop computer, a purse and 30,000 colones in cash (about $56.60).”

Gomez added that “it seems they entered after bending two of the bars on a window.”

The victims are from California, USA. They were visiting Nosara for the second time and were staying in a condo near the beach.

“They are from California and they have a three year old daughter who thankfully slept through the whole thing,” said Jory Serota, who is a friend of the couple and lives in Guiones Beach.

After the robbery and giving statements to OIJ, the family decided to finish their vacation in the Arenal Volcano area.

OIJ indicated that no one has been arrested yet and the case is under investigation.
