Beauty and Adventure in the Same Canton

Esta publicación también está disponible en: Español

There are places in the world where you have to walk for hours to find beautiful landscapes. However, in the canton of La Cruz, all you have to do is walk across a couple of blocks from the center of town to be facing one of the most beautiful viewpoints of Guanacaste, where the ocean at Bahia Salinas and different types of dry forests meet in the same photograph.

The canton that borders Nicaragua is only 40 minutes from Liberia, connected by a paved highway that doesn’t require a 4×4 vehicle. There is adventure on every side. A fun option is the canopy tour with the Santa Cruz company Spider Monkey, where some 11 cables run through the dry forest, with some distances of more than 200 meters. Among the trees, running into a white-faced monkey or a slothcan happen in a matter of minutes.

At the Spider Monkey canopy tour, tourists can feel an adrenaline rush flying between the trees.

The site also offers a night adventure, when you can hear the sounds of the forest and feel like you are traveling into space. At night, there are also nocturnal walks through the dry forests, when it is common to find snakes, frogs or bats, among other animals. You can also learn about the Murcielago National Park closeup on a safari-style 4×4 tour.

If the beach is your thing, you can go snorkeling and surfing in the beautiful Junquillal Wildlife Refuge, with turquoise water, like a typical postcard from a souvenir shop.

ATVs are also an option for the most adventurous. The Costa Ricans of Hacienda el Cenizaro have tours that cross small rivers and go through large farms. The tour can be done on horseback if you prefer.

Between rivers and mountains, tourists can have fun on ATV expeditions in Hacienda El Cenizaro.
