Carrillo Beach Will Experience 4th Annual 2015 Triathlon Competition

With the heat of the beach and the excitement of the race, Carrillo Beach will experience the fourth annual 2015 Triathlon Cup on Saturday, January 31 and Sunday, February 1.

The event is being organized by Albu Sports, coordinated by journalist Nilsen Bujan and the United Triathlon Federation. This is the fourth time that triathlon is taking place in Puerto Carrillo.

“The goal of the event is for people to enjoy it as a family and participate in sports, taking advantage of the good conditions offered by Carrillo Beach,” said Nilsen Bujan.

Bujan indicated that last year, about 180 athletes participated and this year, about 250 are expected. Registration is open to children, teens and adults.

The swimming leg will take place across from the old airport, and the cycling portion is 10 kilometers long, leaving from the old airport, passing through the community of Estrada and returning.

The running leg is 2.5 kilometers, going around the old airport. Both the routes for cycling and running are over flat terrain on gravel roads.

The explosive relay competition (swimming, cycling and running simultaneously in pairs) includes swimming across from the old airport, cycling an 8-kilometer circuit heading toward Samara and running in a 1.6-kilometer circuit toward Samara.

Registration fees for the category of children between 9 and 13 years old is $20 per event. The Sport category is $55, the Olympic category is $65 and Explosive Relays are $30 per couple.

Registration includes awards, an event shirt, a visor, an electronic chip for keeping track of times, fruit, hydration and water stands, medical attention from the Hojancha Red Cross, basic insurance coverage from INS, security en route and transitions.

The deadline for registration is January 27 at midnight with no exceptions.
