Clothing Theft Gang Apprehended in Nicoya

On Wednesday, December 11, the Nicoya Public Force received calls from store owners who had been robbed of clothing and other ítems. The owners described the suspects, who were later apprehended in route to La Mansion at around 5 p.m. The suspects were handed over to the district attorney’s office (fiscalia) in Santa Cruz.  

According to Nicoya Police Chief Omar Chavarria, the gang had been robbing from stores and super markets around the country but were finally apprehended in Nicoya.

Four suspects were apprehended, two men and two women. The last names of the suspects are Poveda Acosta and Vargas Duarte from Nicaragua, and Diaz Castillo and Grijalba Acosta from Costa Rica.

The four implicated in the robberies were given five days of preventive prison as a preliminary measure and the investigation has been turned over to the Flagrancy Court in Liberia.
