After weeks of speculation and rumor about the sale of the well-known hotel and restaurant Gilded Iguana in Nosara, Carlos “Chiqui” Yaniz, husband of one of the business’s owners Paty Doe Yaniz, confirmed the sale to The Voice of Guanacaste.

According to Yaniz, the deal for the sale was finalized in the last week of August. He dismissed the rumor that the restaurant was facing economic difficulties.

“We decided to sell because we are very tired and very old. Patty [his wife] has worked very hard this whole time. We want to rest,” explained the ex-owner.

Yaniz opted to not reveal the name of the new owners and the amount of the sale.

For his part, Jeffrey Grosshandler, the Real Estate agent who handled the sale, stated that the Gilded Iguana will continue to be the same restaurant and hotel and rejected the idea that there would be condominiums built on the property. According to Grosshandler, the property was sold for over $2 million.

Grosshandler would not name the new owners or the price of the purchase, but he reported that the property measures almost 7,000 square meters.

The Gilded Iguana has been operating for almost 40 years and is one of the most popular restaurants and hotels in Playa Guiones. It is well-known for having live music on Tuesday nights.
