Another episode of violence occurred this morning in broad daylight, this time inside a school in Nicoya, with the death of Rosibel Gomez Enriquez, age 46, cook at the Virgilio Caamaño School.
The incident occurred at 10 a.m. when Melvin Zuñiga Muñoz, a 37-year-old resident of the IMAS neighborhood of Nicoya and apparently Gomez’s romantic partner, entered the school and went to the cafeteria, where he fired a gun against Gomez Enriquez’s head.
Then Zuñiga fled toward the La Matabuey neighborhood, taking off the boots he was wearing on the way, and entered a pasture where he appeared dead with a bullet wound in his chest. Next to his body was the weapon preliminarily believed to be the one used to kill the woman and then to kill himself, according to Omar Chavarria, chief of the Nicoya Public Force.
For now, the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) is investigating the real causes of the incident.
