The morning of Thursday, November 21st brought shock and awe for officials and those carrying out court processes in Nicoya.

The work and services normally provided at the court in Nicoya were suspended for more than two hours after the report of a bomb threat in the building.

The alert was registered at 9:10 a.m. through the 911 emergency telephone service. At 9:45, officials from a special team of the Public Force (Fuerza Pública) and the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ – Organismo de Investigación Judicial) appeared; they lifted the alert at 11:18 after not finding any suspicious items, having searched the building, according to the press department of the OIJ.

Moreover, while the operation was being carried out in the court, two armed men travelling by motorcycle entered the Gollo store located in Barrio San Martin and stole phones, tablets and about 50 thousand colones in cash.

The robbery occurred at 10:30 am, which is why the authorities are not ruling out the possibility that the false bomb alert was a distraction to divert the attention of the officers and in that way carry out the crime, according to Francisco Cordero, Regional Chief of the Public Force.

According to Public Force information, the subjects went to the area known as Las Latas in Nicoya, where they left the motorcycle and got in another vehicle to flee.

Francisco Cordero said the operating style of these subjects demonstrates a significant level of logistics because they already had a plan, route and resources set up, which is why they will continue carrying out operations in a variety of places in the Colonial City.
