This season BarriGuiones is more powerful. The planting campain this year started on Tree Day, June 15th and will be held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays until Augost 5th. The proyect has two main objectives: join the community and restore the forest with native coastal species. Around 1700 trees, 35 different species and 500 live stakes were planted during last year’s campaign. Mortality rate has lowered thanks to  more efficient practices like a better quality compost, liquid reteiners, marks on the trees and invasive species like crabs. Children and teachers from local schools like Del Mar, Santa Marta, La Esperanza, Academy del Sol and HomeSchool Beach Academy will be collaborating with the project.

Before placing the tree, the soil must be fertilized with 4 shovels of lombricompost

This is the first year the trees are born and grown in BarriGiones nursery.

Some volunteers that helped in the past have become leaders now.

Gerardo has been talking to children at schools and highschools so they get familiar with the process.
