If your school or nonprofit has a project or an idea for solving environmental problems but lacks the resources to bring it to life, this is an opportunity you won’t want to miss: the organization ChangeX, in collaboration with ServiceNow, has launched a call for proposals to support initiatives in Costa Rica with up to $32,672 dollars.
It is the ServiceNow 2026 Community Improvement Fund, which for the fourth consecutive year is offering opportunities to strengthen community groups in the region.
In 2025, the organization supported the family and community-based enterprise Avancari Butterfly Farmers, which is dedicated to the breeding and conservation of native butterflies in San Juan de Abangares. The team of five people, three of whom are women, also planted “host” plants and restored a green area to serve as a refuge.
The initiative aims to transform the community of San Juan de Abangares into a hub for native butterflies, to attract tourism in a sustainable way.
In the future, the project will generate sustainable income and plans to build a butterfly exhibition center open to tourists with lodging facilities, seeking to involve more local producers,” Chance X told La Voz.
For this edition, applicants can apply with their own idea or project, and if they do not have one developed, adopt one of the fund’s three approved climate ideas: 1. ecosystem restoration, 2. plastic recycling, or 3. large-scale solar energy.
With funding of up to $32,672 dollars those selected can cover direct installation or maintenance costs such as space rental, insurance, seeds and planting materials, tools, and training fees. Some funds may be used to pay those working on the project.
All projects must allow for the possibility of ServiceNow employees volunteering.
For this round, between three and five projects will be selected, and while it varies by case, the timeline for implementation and demonstrating impact is 12 months.
