During the early morning hours of Sunday, August 17, a 41 year-old man with the last names Gomez Bolaños was shot and killed near Samara.
The incident happened at 4:30 a.m. at a bar that has yet to be identified.
According to Omar Chavarria, chief of the Nicoya Public Force, the victim apparently tried to stop the robbery of a friend who was at the bar. The suspect drew a gun and shot Gomez, who died on site.
As this article went to press, no more information about the event had been released. The Judicial Investigation Body (OIJ – Organismo de Investigacion Judicial) has taken charge of the case.
The suspect fled the scene and no one has been arrested in relation to the homicide as of yet.
The incident has caused concern among Samara residents, who had been hoping to increase the area’s security. For that purpose, a community meeting with the chief of the national Public Force, Juan Jose Andrade, will be held on August 21 at 1 p.m at the Community Hall.
