New Owners and New Menu at Las Tecas Bar & Restaurant

Las Tecas Bar & Restaurant, formerly focused on serving alcoholic drinks, now has new owners who want to make it a family place with local and international dishes.

Restaurant owner Rodolfo Campos Cardenas is an experienced professional chef who has worked in various hotels and restaurants in the area. He and his girlfriend, Nely Cubillo Paniagua, took over the establishment in July, and they plan to install a play set for children.

If you want to taste a local dish, you have several options: an entire chicken criollo with achiote for 12,000 colones ($24); a mixed platter of chicken, sausage, fish and plantains for 7,000 colones ($14); an whole fish for 4,500 colones ($9), fish fillet for 4,000 colones ($8), and several casado options with chicken with achiote, steak, pork chop, pork rib or tongue in sauce, at prices ranging from 3,000 to 4,000 colones ($6 to 8).

The menu also includes a variety of international cuisine: seafood paella for 4,500 colones ($9), baked fish for 7,000 colones ($14) or seafood risotto for 4,500 colones ($9).

Las Tecas is a shady place surrounded by gardens, located outside of the city of Nicoya, seven kilometers from the Pedregal cement factory in the direction of La Mansion, on the left side of the road. Open Thursday through Monday from noon to 10 p.m., 8576-8773 or 2685-4054.
