At the end of November, Hospital Metropolitano will arrive in the canton of Santa Cruz, next to the Huacas Fire Department. There it will offer full-time internal medicine, a pharmacy, a clinical lab, emergency services and X-rays.

According to the hospital’s medical director, Roberto Herrera, other rotational specialties will include orthopedics, pediatrics, gynecology, obstetrics and dermatology, among others.

All services will be available Mon.-Sun., from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., but staff will be on call 24 hours a day. In the first phase, the hospital will have 10 new employees.

It will become the canton’s first hospital, as currently only one integral attention center by the Costa Rican Social Security System is in operation. The closest public hospital is La Anexión, in Nicoya.
