During July, a special team of eight Public Force officers was formed, selected for their level of commitment and initiative, in order to perform special operatives working on objectives in the entire canton and focusing on addressing specific community needs, according to Omar Chavarria, police chief for the canton of Nicoya.
For example, he related that in San Martin, complaints were frequently received about two or three individuals who cause the most problems, so the team would focus on those individuals. “It isn’t a matter of persecution but rather of prevention,” Chavarria explained.
The results are already being seen, as the officers have succeeded in apprehending more suspects for different crimes such as possession of weapons and drugs and presenting them before the district attorney. “They are giving us excellent results,” Chavarria affirmed.
