Bicycle sports lovers will have the chance to see high-level athletes competing in the BMX War Jam 2014, the sixth annual event, which will take place in Nicoya’s multisport complex on Sunday, February 9 beginning at 9 a.m.
Luis Elias Benavides, the event’s organizer, said that this year the competition will be very good, as there will be at least 50 participants from Canada, Chile, the United States, Mexico and Venezuela, in addition to athletes from other parts of the country, and of course competitors from Nicoya.
Benavides explained that Jean-William Prevost, one of the best bikers in the world in the Flatland category, will participate, as well as Kenneth Tencio, the national champion in the Street category. Nicoyan representatives will include Olman Sanchez, Carlos Sotelo and Cesar Quesada.
Olman Sanchez is one of the most experienced Nicoyan bikers, having started at the age of 14. Today, at 28, he will be participating in the event for the sixth time, hoping to compete and have fun.
“All of the national competitors know each other, and we see each other as friends. The truth is that I don’t feel pressure to compete,” said Sanchez, who added that the winner will not only have to do the best tricks, but also do them well.
Tickets for the event costs 5,000 colones ($10). For the event’s winners, prizes will include sports clothing, equipment and bicycle parts.
