For those looking for something to do this weekend, the Nicoyan Association for the Development of Culture and Art (Asociacion Nicoyana para el Fomento de la Cultura y el Arte) is organizing the first Artisan Fair, which will be held Friday and Saturday, October 17-18 in the colonial plaza in Nicoya. The event will last from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

According to Anabel Arias, vice president of the association, the purpose of the activity is to attract local craftspeople from the canton to exhibit and sell their wares.

“Most of the time, artisans are ignored and this fair is [being held] to give them exposure,” said Arias.

Arias said that it is hoped some 30 craftsmen will come to exhibit their crafts made with paper, clay, wood, ceramics and paint, among other materials.

Arias also said that they are hoping for good attendance and that families will enjoy the activity. Nicoyan Deputy Marta Arauz, who founded the association and promotes culture and arts in the canton, will be present for the event.
