The Sport (also known as “Sprint”) TRIA Cup category involves:

- A 5 kilometer foot race
The Olympic TRIA Cup category involves:
- A 1.5 kilometer open swim

According to event organizer Manrique Chinchilla of Albu Sports, the first TRIA Cup event will take place in Playa Carrillo on the 25th and 26th of January. The swim will be in front of the old Puerto Carrillo airfield. From there, the triathletes will mount their bikes and pedal to the town of Estrada before dismounting and running towards Playa Samara.
The next TRIA Cup event will be in Playa Tambor on the 21st and 22nd of June and the final event for 2014 will be on the 18th and 19th of October. The TRIA Cup is just one of three major triathlon events hosted in Guanacaste, which is quickly becoming the triathlon capital of Latin America.
