The Nicoya Penal Court added three more months to the preventive prison term of a man with the last names of Carrillo Briones for the murder of Ingrid Hernandez Mayorga.

The murder took place this year on January 10 in Belen de Nosarita, and the man was arrested on January 12 after he was detained by members of the community. He had some injuries that indicate that he may have tried to take his own life.

Carrillo and Hernandez were a couple although they were not married, and they have two children, a 16-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy. In late December, Hernandez requested police protection against Carrillo and obtained a restraining order, according to Police Chief Adriana Cordoba. However, she later allowed Carrillo to return home, thus invalidating the precautionary measures.

It seems the man entered the house of his former partner from the rear, attacked her with a piece of wood and later inflicted two chest injuries with a knife. Their children apparently tried to stop the attack.
