A man was arrested for carrying 70,000 counterfeit colones (about $132) the night of Monday, January 12 during the community festival in Belen of Nosarita, Nicoya.
The 34-year-old suspect answers to the last name Ugalde.
According to the Public Force, the arrest was made when one of the vendors reported to police that a man had tried to pay for certain items with bills on a type of paper that raised doubts.
Officers immediately located the suspect and arrested him. Ugalde was carrying seven 10,000-colones denomination bills, which did not fulfill security measures.
The Public Force transferred Ugalde to the Public Ministry to follow proper procedure.
The Ministry of Security is requesting that citizens who intend to visit community festivals during the next few months stay alert when handling money and review the security measures for detecting counterfeit bills.
