Que Lindo!

Planning has under way for Samara’s 2016 Que Lindo Art Fair.  It will be on Saturday, January 30 from noon to 5.

Samara owes a debt of thanks to Lavae Aldrich who has inspired and encouraged a rag-tag bunch of volunteers to not only put this event together, but to improve and expand it each year.  Lavae is a fused glass artist who maintains the Gecko Glass Studio just outside of central Samara where she makes her beautiful pieces and gives classes for aspiring glass artists.  Her interest in the event is fueled by 2 desires.  One is to provide a showcase for Samara’s artists and artisans. The other is to provide funding for more art education for local children.

The proceeds of the event will go to support art education through CREAR, Samara’s award winning non-profit that provides the town library, after school programs and free programs in art, computing, English, parenting and personal empowerment for young girls.  Funds will be raised through entry fees, silent auctions, and a raffle of some pretty exciting prizes donated by the Samara business community.

The committee of volunteers  is growing as more artists move to the area, and as local businessmen take an interest in the event.  Thanks to the work of Xavi Palomar this year’s Que Lindo is also being supported by the Nicoya MunicipalityThey are closing the street for us and providing tents for shade so we can expand the venue.  Businesses are also being invited to contribute tents.

The fair has been announced to artists and we are already getting requests to sign up.  Registration officially begins January 7, and thanks to new volunteer Fiona Bowie ( a retired art professor, and working artist specializing in public art, and a new resident of Samara) online registration will be available at the soon-to-be-launched Samara Arts website.  Visit the Que Lindo Feria de Arte Facebook page for updates and official announcements.

Que Lindo still needs lots of volunteers to help out during the event and family friendly entertainment.  Sign up by sending a message through the Facebook page.    I hope that every resident of greater Samara will get involved.  It will be a fun day for a great cause. Thank you to everyone working to make this happen.
