Colochos Soda in Samara specializes in seafood and offers lunch and dinner. Their famous dish is ceviche, and they even have regular customers who seek them out especially for ceviche.
Alexis Jimenez, known as Colochos, and his wife, Marilyn Castillo, have run the soda next to their house for one year. In high season, the family works all day. They begin to prepare the ceviche at 9 a.m. and close the soda at 9 p.m.
Colochos used to be fisherman and began his business selling ceviche on the street. Then he decided to open Colochos Restaurant in Samara center, which he had for 20 years. He closed the business and two years later decided to open a small soda this time, focused on selling seafood, local dishes and ceviche.
The menu has a variety of seafood options. For 10,000 colones ($20), they sell the Machubela platter, well known in town, which two people can share. It has all kinds of seafood: whole lobster, fish, shrimp, squid, octopus and mussels. They also sell paella and typical casados with chicken, steak, pork chop and beef in sauce.
The soda also offers a relaxing environment. It is surrounded by palms, trees and plants. Colochos prefers not to play music so customers can spend a nice time in the tranquility of nature. While eating, you can observe birds, howler monkeys, iguanas and other animals.
This family business is located in downtown Samara, 150 meters south of the ICE office.
