Samara’s Library Relocated

Playa Samara’s public library has found a new home. The library is housed and operated by a local non-profit organization, La Asociación CREAR, whose new office is now located opposite Intercultura Language School next to the beach.

Around 1000 books fill the shelves of the small garage space, which is part of the school’s annex building. The collection includes a range of different genres in more than nine languages, as well as dictionaries, guidebooks and a great assortment of children’s books.

The volunteer-run library is accessible from Monday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and consists entirely of donated books. A voluntary donation of 500 colones for borrowing a book helps to finance CREAR’s complementary educational activities, which are offered to the children of the community.

The opening of the new library space coincided with the organization’s afterschool program theme for February: Reading & Stories. Children between the ages of three and thirteen are welcome to participate in the varying monthly programs throughout the school year, which include topics such as geography, history, English, health, nutrition, and the environment. The afterschool program is run in the communities of Samara and El Torito. For further information, please check https://www.facebook.com/AsociacionCREAR
