One year after KFC arrived in Nicoya, the international restaurant chain Subway confirmed that it will open new restaurants in Santa Cruz and Nicoya.

Gia Pandolfo, Subway’s marketing director, said that Subway will open in Santa Cruz within eight weeks. It will be located kitty-corner from the Banco Nacional.

Pandolfo explained that the Nicoya restaurant still does not have a set opening date because it is still under construction at Plaza Nicoya, which is located at the entrance to the canton.

Subway currently has four restaurants in Guanacaste. They are located in El Coco, Limonal, Tamarindo, and Liberia. The Liberia restaurant was one of the first chain franchises to open outside of the San José Metropolitan Area.

“Guanacaste is a province that we consider extremely important. We’ve operated here successfully for more than ten years,” said Pandolfo.

The restaurants in Santa Cruz and Nicoya will create between eight and fifteen jobs for local workers.
