Sports enthusiasts now have a new venue in Samara as a tennis court was recently opened on January 15 on main street next to Hotel Giada, and now lessons are available too.

For now, the court is just for tennis, but Xavier Palomar, president of  the Natural Center Gym and Spa, said the idea is to expand its use to other sports, such as basketball and volleyball.  One group of Canadians already used the court to play hockey, he said.

Kyle Mitri, who was a tennis coach for 5 years in South Africa, is beginning to give private or group tennis lessons at the court and is committed to being in Samara for at least 6 more months.  He also hopes to organize a children’s tennis group.  For more information, contact him at 8583-2288.

Currently the court is available for rent at a rate of 10,000 colones per hour or tennis enthusiasts can buy a card that entitles them to 10 hours of use for 50,000 colones.  In addition, racquets can be rented at the travel information post located in front of the courts for 1000 colones per hour with 6 balls included.
