On Thursday, March 12 2015, a preliminary hearing will be held to begin the trial of a couple who are accused of killing Francisco Gomez Bolaños, a 41 year-old.

The event happened on August 17, 2014, when a man with the last name Rangel, a 32 year-old Samara native, and his girlfriend, a 35 year-old from Heredia with the last name Abarca de Guarari, allegedly played a role in Gomez’s death.

Gomez died while trying to stop the robbery of a friend while they were at a bar at the beach, which is why the suspect pulled a gun and shot Gomez.

According to Xinia Mora, spokesperson for the Judicial Investigation Body (OIJ – Organismo de Investigacion Judicial), when the couple found out they were wanted by law enforcement officials, they decided to turn themselves in at the OIJ station in San Jose.

Feeling trapped, they decided to call the OIJ station and then coordinate their arrival to make their statement, coming under arrest,” said Mora.

According to Tatiana Vargas, a member of the Ombudsman’s press, “This case is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 12 of this year. During the hearing, the Ombudsman will request that the trial be opened,” says the report.
