The dry season also means the beginning of a new National Surf Circuit in Costa Rica. The tentative schedule publicized by the Federacion de Surf de Costa Rica includes seven tournaments between December and July.
The competition is open to all who wish to participate, both Costa Rican nationals and foreigners. This year there will be 15 categories for surfers to choose from: Open, Women Open, Bodyboard, Women Bodyboard, longboard, Novato, Junior, Junior Women, Boys, Grommets, Grommets Women, Mini-Grommets, Mini-Grommets Women, Masters and Grand Masters.
Membership in the The Federacion de Surf de Costa Rica (FSCR) is required for participation in the national circuit tournaments. The membership fee for this season is set at ¢15.000. An additional inscription fee is also required when competing in the individual tournaments.Inscription fees range between ¢8.000 and ¢12.000 depending on the category in which the surfer is competing.
Out of the seven tournaments scheduled for the 2009-2010 National Circuit the best four finishes will be counted towards the final ranking. That is, surfers are able to throw out their three lowest scores.

Kids Day, an activity organized by CREAR (Samara’s premier after-school program), brings kids of all ages to C & C for free surf lessons and other activities.
