PachaMama Aims to Unite Families with 5-Day Music Festival

Performers Include Sonambulo and Cocofunka
By Arianna McKinney

Five days of music, dance and yoga will liven up the riverbank beside Rio Rosario in Pachamama (20 minutes west of Nosara) during the La Familia (the family) festival from January 23 to 27.

“It will be a wonderful gathering for the whole family with lots of kids activities, some spiritual sides but for sure lots of rock n roll and dancing,” assured Lino Vardan, festival producer.

For the indigenous people, the word PachaMama means “mother earth.”  Surrounded by forest and the river, the festival is aimed to combine a love of nature and music while at the same time providing spiritual nourishment in the form of yoga, purified sweat lodges, healthy food, classes and lectures.

The musical lineup includes Sonambulo, the reggae group Un Rojo, Cocofunka, Huba & Silica, Florian droids, Santos & Zurdo, 424 and Nessi Gomes, along with international electronic DJ's.

"The vision of "La Famila" is to create a merger between adults and kids, cultivating a protected space of innocence, mutual inspiration and creativity,” explained Vardan. In addition to activities for kids each morning like a circus and puppet making, there will also be children’s performances on stage and family games in the afternoons.

With the new concept focusing on children, Vardan assured that “La Familia is a drug- and alcohol-free event. This means: No alcohol and drugs will be allowed on the premises. We ask the people attending to respect this policy.”

Tickets are $240 for the whole festival or $160 for the weekend (Friday-Sunday) and are available at the festival site.  Children up to age 12 will be admitted free, a 50% is being given to Ticos and Latin Americans, and anyone who attends the festival with a print copy of The Voice of Nosara will receive a 15% discount.
