Guiones Tourist Businesses Repair Road
• Start of season motivates cooperation
By Gerardo Brenes

Business owners around and near the main road going from Mini Super Guiones to the entrance to the beach joined to repair the most visited and most used road in the area.

The initiative was spurred by Richard Moffat, the owner of Monkey Quads, who encouraged the other owners of businesses and homes to raise funds to repair a street that, in his own words was “a disgrace to our visitors”.

Although this street is the responsibility of the Municipality of Nicoya and the Esperanza Association of Development, knowing how slow municipal processes for repairs are, the business decided to work on their own.

Motivated by this businessman and his neighbors with over 15 years of living in the area, 31 businesses and some homeowners around this busy street started a collection for the $4,660.00 it cost the job. The response was very positive and almost all businesses participated.

They hired Freddy Jimenez, who performed the work January 8 - 10, leaving the street not only without a single hole but also packed with an excellent crown, which will not allow the rainwater to wash away the benefits of the work.

While Jimenez quoted 20 trucks of material, in the end and for the same price, he used a total of 24. At a closing date of this edition the sum of $ 410.00 is remaining to be raised, so anyone who would like to help is encouraged to contact Moffat (26824067 or 88979507) at his business Monkey Quad Rentals, located on the newly repaired, and in perfect condition Guiones main street.
