Laura and family: Laura Rodriguez Lopez (in wheelchair) surrounded by friends and family at Esperanza school in January 2012, is the inspiration for free physical therapy clinics in the Nosara area.
Starting this Friday April 19, a group of four physical therapists and 12 students are coming to Nosara from the United States to surf... and to provide five free physical therapy clinics to the people of Nosara, Santa Marta, and Esperanza.
Physical therapists help people with problem backs, necks, knees, and other parts of the body. They provide therapeutic massage and counseling on therapeutic exercise and prognosis.
Four of the physical therapists are licensed teachers and they are bringing 12 students with them. The students will be working under the direct supervision of their teachers. English/Spanish translators will be available at each clinic. There is still a need for more translators. Bi-lingual persons interested in volunteering should email [email protected].
This project was created by Jay Quisenberry, owner of Villas Las Tecas and Hotel Buena Vista, and Page Seiffert, owner of Pilates Nosara, to provide physical therapy for their friend, Laura Maria Rodriguez Lopez who suffers from a rare bone disorder and it grew from there. Now, the whole community will benefit.
Clinics will continue until all patients are treated. When there are no more patients, the clinic will end and the physical therapists will return to their surfing.
