It Takes a Village to Raise an Artist – Auction for the Arts by
Surfing Nosara Foundation
By Miriam Mac Cormack

Benefiting Local Schools.
Enriching All Students as Artists.

Who can argue against the value of Art? Civilizations pass but Art endures. Any culture that does not encourage its children to create art, risks losing much and, perhaps, leaving nothing behind.

The Surfing Nosara Foundation (SNF) recognizes this ongoing challenge and seeks to respond on a local level. Children of all ages need to create Art. And, for that, our local schools require art supplies. This need has motivated SNF to sponsor an auction to raise money for art supplies for our children and the Nosara public schools.

SNF’s mission is to improve the lives of the residents of Nosara by affecting change in the public schools and the community, “one project at a time”. This non-profit organization makes visible changes in our public schools. Last year’s projects include: donating classroom equipment and school supplies, providing metal trash bins for the schools, fixing low-hanging electrical wiring, providing a new concrete floor and constructing a lunchroom building.

‘Auction for the Arts’ is the brainchild of art curator Nina Arias and the President of the SNF, Sarah Antonson. Both women believe strongly in the power of art to transform lives. They share the same deep commitment to the children of Nosara, and have a healthy respect for the daily challenges of our teachers and students.

SNF has provided five jars of paint, brushes and an 80” x 50” canvas to each of the eight local schools. The children will create collaborative paintings which will be auctioned off at a festive event in July. All money raised from the auction will go towards purchasing additional art materials for the children and their schools.

What can you contribute? For the months of May and June SNF will be accepting donations of original works of art from local artists. These works, as well as donated goods and services from local businesses in the community, will be included in the auction.

If you are interested in donating artwork, please call Sarah Antonson at 2682-0570, Email: [email protected] or contact Nina Arias at [email protected] or you can drop off donated works at the Surfing Nosara office, next to Banco Popular in Guiones.

SNF thanks you for being the village that raises artists!
