Dog on Board: A New Breed of Surfers
By Ashley Steyaert
Nosara is well known as a prime surfing destination and has attracted people of all ages, sizes and skill levels to our beach breaks for many years, but recently we’ve been seeing a whole new breed of wave riders – canine surfers!

Taima, a three and a half year old dog rescued by owners of Treehouse Gardens Surf Camp Enrique and Spacialle, learned to surf in just three days. Enrique says “she always showed an interest toward the sea, but especially in playing with the waves. I throw sticks and she brings them back like other dogs. Why not try something different maybe with a board? We tried with various sized boards, first a fiberglass one and in the end the solution was a soft long board”.

Could this four-legged fanatic be a sign of a new trend? Other dogs such as Mundra’s dog Pecas in Tamarindo and Eric Varela’s dog Pipo in Sámara have been seen riding waves as well, watch out Jason Torres you’ve got some new competition!
