On Monday November 15, the Pharmacy Nosara will be giving diabetes exams from 8 am-12 pm and 1 pm-7 pm. Any one of any age can receive the exam, child or adult.
Normally, the cost is ¢2,000-¢3,000, but during this time the charge will be ¢1,000, plus checking for high blood pressure. The test consists of a small prick on the finger and collecting a drop of blood that goes into a machine to find the level of blood sugar.
Knowing ones blood sugar is important because a majority of the population does not know their sugar level because of lack of having the test (in some cases one is diabetic and doesn’t even know). Diabetes can be avoided by diet, exercise or other treatment that could save ones life.
Both high and low level sugar can cause very serious problems, creating symptoms often ignored because of lack of information. Some of these are sicknesses, disorientation, and headache, among others.
Diabetes affects 250 million people around the world and takes the life of about two Costa Rican per the day, while 300 million more are found to be at risk to develop it and figures keep rising.
Nosara pharmacy is located 400 meters south of Ebais, Arenales. For more information, call 2682-5149 or send an email to [email protected]
