Celtic Music Visits Nosara

By Emiliana Garcia

This Friday, December 21, the Nosara Yoga Institute will offer a Celtic music show to benefit SIBU and the Nosara Recycling Association.

The show consists mostly of original music by the Costa Rican group Peregrino Gris, and also of traditional Irish, Scottish and Gaelic music.

“The four members of the band play various instruments and in the show it’s interesting to see how the musicians interchange instruments depending on the song being played,” said Rodrigo Oviedo, one of the members.

The repertoire includes soft and meditative music as well as very lively music that invites you to dance freely.

“Eduardo, our bagpiper, started with this 15 years ago, inspired by the old music, folk and medieval music.  When he bought a Scottish bagpipe, he started to investigate the rhythms and melodies of Celtic music,” Rodrigo tells us. That’s how together they founded Peregrino Gris in 2001, and since then the study, enjoyment and interest in these music genres has been growing. In addition, they discovered that the Costa Rican public likes these types of music and unfamiliar instruments.

Jeannette Vargas, who is organizing the event, assured that there is plenty of room for dancing and there will be cushions for those who prefer to enjoy the music seated. Admission costs $10 and the show starts at 7 p.m. in the institute’s facilities in Playa Guiones. For tickets contact [email protected] or buy them the day of the show.
