With a cost of around 150 million colones ($300,000) the Centro de Atención al Anciano y Minusválido (Center of Assistance for the Elderly and Disabled) will be built in the district of Nosara, which will be located on a 1,700-square-meter piece of land, purchased in Bocas de Nosara, 50 meters east of the EBAIS.

The Municipality of Nicoya made the purchase on the 15th of February, with a cost of 38 million colones ($76,000) to guarantee the beginning of the work, starting in July. 

Marcos Avila, president of the Development Association and Syndic for this district, told VON: “We, the inhabitants of Nosara, feel very content knowing that it is a done deal that the land was bought and this gives us hope that very soon the construction of the building will be initiating.”

For his part, Marco Jimenez, mayor of Nicoya, indicated that the designs are being prepared so that the work can be put out for bid and they can proceed with the construction of the home for the elderly. The designs will be financed by the Nosara Development Association.
  
In Nosara, while the David Kitson public library hosts a club for senior citizens in which weekly activities are offered for the grandparents, like dances, creation of artwork, outings to the Beach and many more things, the opening of this Home will help to offer greater attention to the senior citizens. 

Consuelo Jimenez, who has been in charge of these activities in the library, expressed her pleasure in the construction of this assistance center.

Efforts to Protect Samara’s Water Source

The need to protect Samara and El Torito’s main water source, the Mala Noche water table located between Samara and El Torito, was one issue raised in response to the canton’s proposed regulatory plan (see article), which had the area zoned for tourism, although a technical report by the SENARA (National Service of Subterranean Waters, Irrigation and Drainage) specified that a zone of protection of natural resources should be implemented in the Municipality’s regulatory plan.
