Nosara’s volunteer firefighters quickly and successfully put out two fires at different locations in the Nosara community.

They received the first emergency warning on Tuesday, the 17th, at about 6:10 p.m. when they received a report of flames starting in some brush located behind Eskina Skate Park in Guiones, in an undeveloped lot that belongs to the Nosara Civic Association (NCA) between Hotel Giardino Tropical and Cafe de Paris.

Ryan Bombard, chief of the fire department, reported that the flames apparently were ignited by a cigarette butt. However, they responded to the emergency immediately and by 8 p.m. it was definitely under control.

The other incident took place the same day at around 4:40 p.m. in Punta Pelada near Hotel Nosara and was caused by a campfire on the beach. However, it was controlled by the volunteers and was extinguished at 5:23 p.m.

Fortunately, in both instances, no major damage was reported.

Bombard called for awareness and asked for residents to monitor any fires that they make to keep an eye on them and not end up regretting the flames spreading more.

“We work to have a better and safer town,” Bombard commented.

So far in 2015, the Nosara firefighters have responded to 15 emergencies.
