On July 23, the formal and official ceremony was held by the Central Government to initiate the construction of the building for the Public Library of Nicoya.

The construction begins in late August and will hopefully be ready by January of 2014. Construction cost is 235 million colones ($470,000), of which 200 million ($400,000) will be donated by the National Library System (Sinabi) of the Ministry of Culture and Youth. The municipality will provide 35 million colones ($70,000) in equipment for the building.

According to Grethel Delgado Guevara, Nicoya’s librarian, “everyone will be able to enjoy many activities and the best literacy for everyone to enter that world called Information Technology, using technology as a tool and thus learn to live better each day as a community and develop ourselves.”

The new building will be located 250 meters south of the Colonial Church. The land was donated by the Asociacion Pro Biblioteca Publica (Pro Public Library Association).
