The second round of Samara Fiestas will take place from Thursday, March 21 to Monday, March 25, organized by Dr. Fulvio Paniagua Acuña to raise money for the EBAIS Clinic located in Cangrejal of Samara.
The fiestas will be held in the open field in Cangrejal, the same location as the civic fiestas held at the end of 2012, and will include the basic typical fiesta activities: mechanical rides, food vendors and of course, bull riding, followed by a dance. The ticket box opens at 5 p.m. each evening, bull riding begins around 7 p.m. and the dances should be in full swing around 10 p.m.
Bulls for the event will come from a variety of local haciendas, including La Esperanza, Garza and Ostional, as well as a few haciendas from Santa Cruz. Unfortunately, the famous bull Malacrianza will not be appearing this time since he was already engaged elsewhere.
Funds raised by the fiestas will be used to remodel and repair the clinic. Since the clinic is on municipal land, the Caja (Costa Rican Social Security) cannot invest money in the structure, Paniagua explained, and the clinic has not received any aid to repair damages from the earthquake to the floor and walls, as well as doors that are no longer squared. Although the damages are relatively minor, they do need to be repaired, he said. In addition, the clinic needs to update its electric system and repair, paint and reroof a storage shed.
The fiestas have been held to benefit the clinic for the past three years. Paniagua reported that the first time they raised about 2.5 million colones ($5000), the second year they lost money and the third time they raised about 1.5 million colones ($3000). This year, he hopes to raise a little more.
