A group of enterprises will invest $1 billion in Guanacaste’s volcanoes, beaches, and mountains under the license of Discovery Communications Inc. The company plans to develop an ecological park, according to Bloomberg News.

Costa Rican president Luis Guillermo Solís wrote on his Facebook page that the company will make one of the “biggest [investments] of the last ten years” and that this project coincides with the country’s focus on sustainable development.

“It will create jobs, investment, and connections from Guanacaste for Guanacaste and Costa Rica,” the president said.

According to Bloomberg, Discovery Costa Rica will open at the end of 2020 and will be located at four different points near Liberia. The video shown on President Solís’ Facebook profile suggests that the project will be developed on 2,000 acres.

The development will include a water park, scuba diving, hiking and mountaineering, as well as Discovery-branded hotels and restaurants, according to Richard Wirthlin, president of investor relations for Sun Latin America. Sun Latin America is the project’s main developer.

Solís said that they will offer more details on this project tomorrow.
