On Saturday, November 16 at 3 a.m., a woman was raped in Nosara in the neighborhood of Santa Marta, according to Gerardo Aguilar Aguilar, Chief of the Nosara Public Force. The rape took place in a house and it appears that the woman knew the man who attacked her. The man suspected of the rape, whose last names are Perez Muñoz, was apprehended and taken to the district attorney in Nicoya on Sunday, the next day, Aguilar reported.
According to Karla Rivera, of the press department of the Public Ministry, Pérez Muñoz is implicated for the crime of rape and preventive prison was requested during the cautionary measures hearig in Nicoya.
Under Costa Rica’s penal code 157, the crime of rape carries a penalty of 12 to 18 years of prison if the suspect is conivicted as guilty.
