Wanna oversee your neighborhood’s public funds?

At The Voice of Guanacaste, we want to see the province move forward and grow through local governance. That’s why in 2017, we’re launching a pilot program called GuanaData, which will track public funds and community projects whose budgets haven’t been fully executed each year, a hindrance to district progress.

Thanks to financial support from the Organization of American States’ Trust for the Americas, we’ve analyzed Santa Cruz municipal budgets for the past six years. Our mission is to now apply this exercise to the province’s remaining municipalities.

We don’t want to simply name those who perform their jobs poorly. On the contrary, we want to empower citizens to develop their own neighborhoods.

How will we do that? With information and tools that help residents monitor the execution of funds that belong to their communities. In January, in collaboration with the municipality and specialists, we hope to conduct training so that we can all understand how to present better projects, how to find out what money is available to the community, and how to execute the funds.
