Haitian Orphans Will Receive Food Thanks to the Nosara Community

The axiom says ‘It takes a village to raise a child’, but it’s true living testimony in the villages of Nosara. Volunteers and supporters of Devoted to Children (D2C) hosted an evening benefit on March 1 at the new Nosara Yoga Institute to support the family home for orphaned and abandoned children in Cayes Jacmel, Haiti.

Donations of food, auctioned services, and goods raised just over $10,000. The money collected will care and feed the 8 Haitian children of the D2C Family Home for 5-6 months. It will also buy a 3 wheeled motor vehicle with a trailer to send the children safely to school each day.

D2C, is the brainchild of founder Kristin O’Connell. She says the benefit exceeded her expectations on the amount of community support the organization received this year. “The global citizens of Nosara understand that we are one big human family, and that every child deserves a family – children are children, no matter where they happen to be born.”

Various community members and local proprietors donated gourmet appetizers which were passed amongst the crowd all night. Music by local Costa Rican favorites, Santos & Zurdo, with an opening set by DJ Paul DaCosta kept the dance floor full all night. Over two hundred people attended the event.

Other areas of support are always welcomed year round, including volunteers with different areas of expertise.  If you are interested in this project and would like to find out more, please email [email protected] or go to devoted2children.org to learn more.
