The recreational athletic race known as SamaRun aims to bring together 250 competitors from Samara and different parts of the country on February 14. The race will be held beginning at 4 p.m.

SamaRun is a recreational race held in Samara that seeks to provide a healthy diversion for residents and visitors in addition to benefiting the community of Samara with funds raised by means of registration fees.

In previous years, the race was organized by the Samara Chamber of Tourism (CASATUR). However, CREAR Association and members of the community are in charge this year since CASATUR was dissolved in 2014.

All proceeds will go to painting the Samara community hall and fixing the bathrooms, in addition to paying for beach cleanup work.

Andrea Keith, activity promoter, reported that the 2013 race had a large number of participants. “The race was not held last year (2014) for special reasons, but we had a participation of about 180 athletes in the previous year (2013), and we expect more participation this year. We plan to recruit some 250 participants,” said Keith.

The Race Route

The race starts at 4 p.m. to avoid heatstroke and will have two routes. The starting line for the 10-kilometer competition is on the beach, passing through El Torito, going around to Buena Vista and finishing on the beach.

The 5-kilometer route starts at Samara Beach, going to Buena Vista and returning to the beach.
