Edwin Hernandez Ramirez, a 22 year-old Nosaran, was the first to cross the finish line in the mountain bike race organized to raise money to rebuild the community’s Catholic Church, which was destroyed following the earthquake of September 2012.

Ramirez completed the 33-kilometer course, which traveled along paths in the mountains of Nosara, in one hour and 30 minutes.

The event started at 9 a.m. at the new multipurpose hall in Nosara that is still under construction. The race, which took place on Sunday, May 18, was the most crowded to date in Nosara, with 140 cyclists from all over the canton. In total, the church raised close to ₡900,000 ($1,800).
