Passengers on some Nicoya bus routes will be able to travel more comfortably to their respective destinations, as the company Transportes Rojas Castro (TRAROC) has expanded their services with the goal of meeting an increased demand for certain routes.
Currently the company offers service to several coastal communities on the Nicoya Peninsula, including Puerto Carrillo, Nosara, Estrada and Samara.
According to Miguel Vidaurre, the company’s owner, the old schedules no longer accommodated the increased number of passengers in the area.
“The old schedules had been authorized by the Public Transportation Council (CTP – Consejo de Transporte Publico) since 2005 and the population is increasing. On the other hand, part of the concession contract obligates us to satisfy the area’s transportation needs. As such, we saw the necessity of expanding the number of trips to some communities,” Vidaurre explained.
Vidaurre reported that another trip to Nosara has been added, going to and from Nicoya. The same is true for Samara and Virginia. [See the table below for more information.]
In addition, Vidaurre said that the company has requested relevant studies from CTP to implement new services allowing them to satisfy transportation needs on route 548.
Vidaurre indicated that a possible increase in rates could occur in November, as a 4% increase has been requested through the Public Services Regulatory Authority (ARESEP – Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Publicos), and that authorization for the increase at the national level is pending.
