For the third consecutive year, those who love athletics can run and enjoy the atmosphere offered by the “colonial city” during the Nicoya Colonial Race that will take place on the 4th of July at 4 p.m. in Recaredo Briceño Park in Nicoya.

The test has two routes, one that is 1 kilometer and another that is 10 kilometers. Both routes will go through surrounding areas in the canton of Nicoya and will be open to men and women of all ages.

This year, about 450 participants are expected to attend. The registration fee is ¢10,000 (about $19), which includes a medal, a shirt, an electronic chip, insurance policy, hydration and fruit.

This is the first year that the event will be held in order to promote sports since the first two years supported the Nicoyan Terminal Cancer and Palliative Care Unit.

“This year, the proceeds will be used to hold raffles for everyone in attendance, including two raffle prizes of $500 each,” said event coordinator Erick Morera.

The award amounts have not yet been defined, but two categories will receive awards: general and veterans.
